About Glazing Calculator
Built for glaziers, by a glazier.
What Is Glazing Calculator?
Glazing Calculator is a free web and Android tool that lets glaziers, tradespeople, and builders calculate glass panel area (m²), weight (kg), and pricing instantly. Enter your dimensions, select your glass type and thickness, and the results appear immediately — no spreadsheets, no paper, no guesswork.
The calculator supports single and double glazed panels, toughened and laminated glass, multiple shapes (rectangle, triangle, circle, arch), metric and imperial units, multi-panel job sheets, CSV and PDF export, and more. It also works offline as a free Android app available on Google Play.
Why We Built It
Glazing involves a lot of quick calculations on site — dimensions in millimetres, areas in square metres, weights that determine whether you need two people or a mechanical lifter, and prices that have to be right before you commit to a quote. Doing all of this on the back of a notepad or switching between a basic phone calculator and a spreadsheet is slow and error-prone.
We built Glazing Calculator to solve that problem. One tool, on your phone or in your browser, that handles all the standard calculations a glazier needs in a day — fast, free, and without any login or subscription.
Who It's For
- Glaziers — for quoting and on-site calculations
- Window fabricators — for production planning and weight checks
- Builders and project managers — for estimating glass costs in a build
- Homeowners — for understanding what a glazing quote should roughly cost
- Students and apprentices — for learning the fundamentals of glass calculation
How the Calculations Work
Glass weight is calculated using the industry-standard density of 2,500 kg/m³ — which equals 2.5 kg per square metre per millimetre of thickness. This is the same value used in AS 1288 and by glass manufacturers worldwide. For laminated glass, the PVB interlayer weight is included. For double glazed units, the weight is the sum of both glass panes (the spacer contributes negligible weight).
All calculations run locally in your browser or on your device. We do not send your measurements or job data to any server.
The Android App
The free Glazing Calculator Android app offers the same functionality as the web version, plus full offline support. No sign-up or subscription required. It's designed to work on a dirty phone screen with gloves on — large tap targets, clear results, and no unnecessary steps between opening the app and getting your answer.
